The invention relates to a supporting device for a doctor unit, supported by a doctor holder, e.g. beam, rod, profile section or the like, which can be pivoted between two pivoting positions, having a doctor slide which has a bearing block which carries out linear reciprocating movements and is connected in an articulated manner to the doctor holder. A setting device is provided, which pivots the doctor holder out into its inactive working position during its extending movement and holds it at a distance from the plate, whereas it pivots the doctor holder into its active working position during its retracting movement and presses it against the plate.
