PURPOSE:To prevent application of excessive tensile force onto a submarine cable due to up/down motion of a vessel, when an armored submarine cable is jointed on board in the ocean, by bouying the cable closely to the surface of the sea longer than the distance of up/down motion of a cable laying vessel. CONSTITUTION:A submarine cable 1 floated on the surface of sea through the buoyancy of rising buoys 7, 8 is led through the bow sheaves 4 in a cable laying vessel 3 into an inboard joint chamber. The length of cable to be floated on the surface of the sea is set longer than the upper limit of wave height, when cable joint work is carried out on the ocean. By such arrangement, application of excessive tensile force onto the submarine cable due to up/down motion of the cable laying vessel can be prevented and kink can be prevented at the portion of the cable rising from the bottom of the sea. |
