As part of justified efforts to protect property, it is appropriate to provide a further vehicle antitheft device in addition to the (frequently unused) steering wheel lock. As the steering wheel lock provides for fixed locking of the steering system which can be overcome by brute force, this antitheft device is concerned with protecting the handbrake when it has been pulled tight. The existing handbrake release button can be unscrewed without difficulty and replaced by a solidly constructed handbrake release button which, owing to a peripheral annular groove, only retains a core cross-section. The extremely small motor vehicle antitheft device primarily accommodates two regions which are at right angles to one another, i.e. the lockable shutting system and the protective chamber which completely encloses the handbrake release button. When the handbrake has been pulled absolutely tight, the actual motor vehicle antitheft device with the protective chamber is pushed over the handbrake release button to the stop in order then to snap the locking belt into the annular groove of the handbrake release button by means of a spanner or a combination lock device. The handbrake will then be protected against unauthorised use.
