The arrangement for compacting cylindrical vessels containing waste from nuclear plants into die-shaped pellets, comprising a cylindrical compacting chamber, which is confined at one end by a displaceable wall section and at the other end by a feed chamber. A slideable punch is arranged in longitudinal direction of feed- and compacting chambers. A preliminary press is fitted above feed chamber comprising two transversely movable lower dies consisting of four 90 degree segment shaped recesses, an upper die having a semi-circular recess and a release punch located between upper- and lower dies.
