The dealing machine has a magazine (1) in which the cards are stored and which is in permanent rotation, and a rotating cross (14) which, as it rotates, passes over a cam so one side is level with the card magazine while the opposite side is tilted downward to deliver a previously removed card. A card is removed from the deck after reading the code on the card. Reading is carried out by an optical system (29, 30) with the data being transmitted to a personel computer via a parallel link having a 'busy' signal. The program executed by the computer decides whether or not the card should be dealt and initiates the operation of appropriate electric motors to deliver the card to the rotating cross or to pass to the next card. USE/ADVANTAGE - Automatic dealing of cards, particularly for bridge, in which cards are not dealt at random but are dealt according to set of rules which ensure that all players have interesting hand.
