A. Medium - or slightly water-soluble complexes of a N-(7-acylamidoceph 3-em-3-ylmethyl)pyridinium-4-carboxylate (CA) may be prepared by bringing a water-soluble salt of a metal which preferably forms a water-soluble thiocyanate salt, into contact with an aqueous medium containing the CA compound together with thiocyanate ions. B. Complexes of N-(7-acylamidoceph-3-em-3-ylmethyl) pyridinium-4-carboxylate with a metalthiocyanate of formula (I): M(CA - compound)2 (SCN)2 (I) CA-compound= cephalosporin - type antibiotic, especially cephaloridine; M= metals of the I B, II B, III B, V A and VIII group especially those giving complexes with little water-solubility such as Zn,Cd,Ag, or Cu, and more preferably Zn or Cd. C Pharmaceutical preparations for human and veterinary use containing at least one complex (I), preferably (Cephaloridine)2(SCN)2 and preferably also containing a steroid. The new complexes have antibiotic activity themselves or may be used to obtain purer CA -compounds. The preparations are preferably used for local application and those containing a steroid such as beta-methazone or its 17-ester, especially its 17-valerate may be used against inflammations. |
