<p>The present invention provides an apparatus and method for rapid, high volume, and continuous manufacture of multilamellar or paucilamellar lipid vesicles. Lipophilic phase is inputted into a mixing chamber (20), which has a substantially cylindrical inner surface (330). This inputting occurs through an inlet orifice (320) via a feed line (310). Aqueous phase is inputted into another of the inlet orifices. The inlet orifice for one of the two phases must be a tangential orifice. Flow of the separate phases is allowed to intersect to provide shear mixing of the phases to produce lipid vesicles. The resultant lipid vesicles are removed from the mxing chamber through an outlet orifice (350), and an associated exit tube (170).</p> |
