A metal boss (6) is mounted on a ceramic shaft (1) with circumferentially distributed irregularities (4) (e.g. axial grooves 4) by deforming part (6a) of its length, radially inwardly into the irregularities (4) (e.g. by heat and pressure), there being between the remainder of the axial length of the boss (6) and the shaft (1) a collar (2) which is melted to seal the boss to the shaft. |
