<p>A basketball goal (14) is pivotally connected to a vertical support (12) by two parallel members (16, 18) forming a parallelogrammatic structure. A support arm (24) containing a slot (34) with a plurality of notches (36) is pivotally connected at one end to the parallelogrammatic structure and slidably engages a post (25) attached to the parallelogrammatic structure. When a notch (36) engages the post (25), the parallelogrammatic structure is locked in position. A user equipped with a pole (65) applies a force to the goal forcing the notch (36) to disengage the post (25) and allowing the user to raise the goal (14) and engage the locking mechanism by releasing the force. By applying a force directly to the support arm (24), a user may disengage the locking mechanism and move the goal up or down. When the goal has been placed at the desired height, the force is released engaging the locking mechanism and preventing further deformation of the parallelogrammatic structure.</p> |
