<p>The invention relates to an apparatus for converting a unidirectional displacement to an angular displacement of selectable direction. The apparatus (10) has a rack gear assembly, which has two opposing rack gears (16 and 17) held in a parallel spaced relationship and constituting a coordinate plane. Disposed within the two opposing rack gears is rotational shaft (15) having attached to it engagement pin (21) for engaging a segmental pinion gear slot (22 or 23). A pair of opposing segmental pinion gears (13 and 14) are rotatably attached to shaft (15). Each segmental pinion gear (13 and 14) is engaged with a corresponding rack gear (16 and 17). The invention also provides a means for engaging the first said engagement means with either one of the two segmental pinion gears.</p> |
