The invention relates to a system for regulating the operating point of a direct current power supply comprising a current generator system 1 coupled to a pulse-width modulation converter 2. The system comprises means 11, 12 for picking off and measuring the voltage V and the current I delivered by the current generator 1, threshold detector means 3 for unlatching the converter 2, these means delivering a logic signal C representing the state of latching or of unlatching of the converter 2 with respect to the threshold values. A regulation loop 4 includes a commutation element 42, which allows, by inverting the sign of the error signal, the operating point to be deflected towards the maximum power point (Pmax) of the current-voltage output characteristic of the current generator 1.
