A grooved pulley (1) for guiding a cable or wire rope (5) is mounted in a cylindrical housing (2) by ball bearings (3). The balls run in grooves (8) (9) cut directly in the periphery of the pulley and the bore (7) of the body. The cable passes through holes (12) cut in the body. The balls are inserted into tge grooves through a hole in the side of the body. A number of such pulleys can be fitted side by side in a common tubular housing in order to make a pulley block for cranes or lifting tackle.
