PURPOSE:To enhance the capacity of a battery and prevent generation of internal shortcircuiting by forming at least either of a positive and a negative electrode plate from a porous base board without chemical formation, which is filled with paste-formed active substance, and accommodating with a certain gap to the inner wall of the container. CONSTITUTION:Inside a bottomed metal container in the form of rectangular parallelopiped which works also as negative electrode terminal, a neg. electrode plate 22, a separator 23, and a pos. electrode plate 24 are put one over another. These power generating elements 25 are accommodated between the inner side walls of the container 21 with certain gaps reserved. To prevent shortcircuit, each separator 23 has greater width and length than the pos. and neg. electrode plates 22, 24. This prevents defoliation and slipoff of the electrode plate facing the inner side wall of the container 21 at the time of accommodating. At least either of the pos. and neg. electrodes 24, 22 is formed from a porous base board out of chemical formation filled with paste-formed active substance, which causes swelling of the paste-formed active substance in charging and discharging at the time of service after assembly of battery, so that the power generating elements can be accommodated in the condition in good close contact with the inner side wall of the container. |
