A known device contains a compacting funnel which is held on a supporting part and through which the fibre sliver runs. Mounted on the compacting funnel is a sensor, by means of which structure-borne sound can be recorded. The mass fluctuations in the fibre sliver can then be derived from the signal generated by the sensor. To reduce spreads which are located, for example, on the machine side and which act on the sensor via the supporting part and the compacting funnel and therefore falsify the sensor signal, provision is made, according to the invention, for mounting the compacting funnel elastically on the supporting part. The device can be used in auto leveller drawframes of spinning preparation machines.
