A known mixture forming system has a large diaphragm cell, which is an obstacle to its also being used in small engines for smaller vehicles. The new mixture forming system has a diaphragm cell, the working chamber of which can be subjected to the intake pressure of the internal combustion engine and under the effect of the intake pressure swivels a stop lever into the moving path of a throttle lever producing actuation of the throttle valve, a memory with values for the throttle valve starting position, selectable as a function of ambient and/or engine operating parameters influencing the starting of the internal combustion engine, being arranged in the control module, a comparator circuit also being provided, which determines whether the selected value for the throttle valve starting position coincides with that actually indicated by the throttle valve position sensor, a decision circuit being provided, which emits a signal whenever coincidence is detected in the comparator circuit, and a visual and/or audible display device being provided, which is activated by the signal emitted by the decision circuit. As a result, the adjusting forces to be applied by the diaphragm cell are lower than in that of prior art, so that it can be of significantly smaller dimensions. <IMAGE>
