PURPOSE:To obtain a uniform layer of column packing agent with a slow water separation speed, by mixing a specified amount of packing agent with various particle sizes of ice together with water in a slurry tank to be introduced into a packing column as slurry. CONSTITUTION:A packing agent, water and ice are fed into a slurry tank 1 and mixed together to make a slurry 2. The ice is mixed in varied particle sizes. Then, the slurry 2 thus obtained is introduced into a packing column 4 with a circulation pump 3 from the slurry tank 1. In the floating dispersion, the ice 5 in the packing column 4 floats downward in larger particle sizes while gradually upward in smaller sizes accordingly and, eventually, dispersed thoroughly. As a result, the ice 5 melts and moves upward through the slurry 2 with a decrease in particle sizes, thereby solidifying the packing agent in the slurry 2 gradually from below.
