Thermoplastic moulding compositions essentially containing A) from 4 to 96 parts by weight, based on the sum of components A and B, of an SAN, ABS and/or ASA polymer and B) from 4 to 96 parts by weight, based on the sum of components A and B, of a modified polyphenylene ether prepared in the melt from b1) from 90 to 99.95% by weight, based on B, of a polymer component containing at least 20% by weight, based on b1, of polyphenylene ether and at most 80% by weight, based on b1, of a vinylaromatic polymer, and b2) from 0.05 to 10% by weight, based on B, of b21) an amide group-containing monomer containing a polymerisable double bond, b22) a lactam group-containing monomer containing a polymerisable double bond, and/or b23) an alpha , beta -unsaturated dicarbonyl compound, and b3) from 0 to 50% by weight, based on B, of further non-vinylaromatic monomers, where the sum of A and B adds up to 100 parts by weight, and their preparation.
