PURPOSE:To edit a file in use again without intermitting a job by providing a flag representing the state files corresponding to each file to a volume index of a file of a direct access storage device. CONSTITUTION:When it is required to reedit of the file 1 in use by a job processing section 5, the operator commands that the object of the reorganization is file 1 and the primary files are files 2, 3 to stored the file reorganization means 7. The means 7 commands that the reorganization of the 1 during usage is applied by using the files 2, 3 as the primary files to a data management section 6, revises the flag of the file 1 into the transfer state via the management section 6, transfers the content of the file 1 to the file 2 and revises the flag to the state of reorganization when it is finished and executes the reorganizing of the 1 and revises the flag into the normal state when the job is finished. On the other hand, the management section 6 applies the access control of the processing section 5 to the file in response to the status of the flag. When the process is restored normally the means 7 writes the content of the primary file to the file 1.
