The field of the invention is that of automatic control devices for a dry clutch with friction discs using an electric motor in order to actuate the clutch-release lever. According to the invention, the device is made up of a drive device 1 including an electric motor 20 and an actuation mechanism 10 provided, in general, with a crank for manoeuvring the clutch-release lever L. The electric motor 20 is driven by a control generator 4 as a function, either of the speed of the engine, of that of the vehicle, and of time, or of a predetermined value. A function generator 6 determines the operation of the electric motor 20 and its direction of rotation according to certain driving conditions of the vehicle, thus triggering a clutch-release or clutch-engagement operation. Furthermore, a self-adjustment device 12 is interposed on the clutch linkage 15 and makes it possible to compensate for the progressive wear of the linings of the clutch.
