PURPOSE:To efficiently remove trace amounts of O2, S, Cl and oil components in a gas consisting essentially of Co, by bringing the gas into contact with an iron oxide catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A gas 1 containing trace amounts of O2, S and Cl components is passed through a compressor 2, pressurized and then brought into contact with a heater 5 and heated at >=150 deg.C. The heated gas is then passed through a catalyst vessel 3, filled with an iron oxide (e.g. Fe2O3) catalyst, as necessary, containing 2-10wt.% alkaline substance (e.g. CaO) added thereto to remove the O2, S, Cl and oil components. The gas is then cooled to a given temperature in a cooler 4. |
