PURPOSE:To enable a more convenient and low cost defreezing to be performed and save an occupied space by a method wherein a shelf to operate in conjunction with the door of a casing and a heater for heating a foodstuff on the shelf are provided and a fan for blowing air toward the shelf is arranged at the casing. CONSTITUTION:At first a door 3 is opened, a frozen foodstuff 5 is placed on a shelf 4, the door 3 is half opened, a fan 10 is rotated to blow air toward the frozen foodstuff 5. Air cooled by the frozen foodstuff 5 is always sent out by the fan 10 to promote a defreezing action. When a hot air is fed at the beginning of defreezing action, a changing-over switch 8 is operated and both of or one of heaters 6 and 7 is selected to turn ON, a discharging amount of heat is decreased to feed a relative warm air. A defreezing action can be performed at low cost due to the fact that a high frequency electromagnetic wave as observed in a microwave oven is not employed and further the unit is light in weight and small in size and an occupied space can be saved.
