SYNTHETIC PEPTIDES HAVING PITUITARY GROWTH HORMONE RELEASING ACTIVITY

Novel peptides of general formula: (I) or (II) wherein a and b are zero or one; X1, X2, X3, X1', X2. and X3, are N-terminal or desamino .alpha.-C substitutions; Y is a C-terminal or descarboxy .alpha.-C substitution; and A1 to A6 are amino acid residues as defined in the disclosure and claims. Intermediates for preparing peptides (I) or (II) are also disclosed, as are combinations of the peptides with a growth promoting agent. The peptides and combinations act directly on the pituitary in vivo or in vitro to release growth hormone therefrom.
