PURPOSE:To improve the performance of heating uniformly a strip-like heated article by forming an enclosed space containing a thermal medium gasified by heating from the inner peripheral wall while condensed by radiation toward the outer peripheral wall between the outer and inner peripheral walls. CONSTITUTION:A heating roller has the inner peripheral wall 2 disposed concentrically inside the outer cylindrical peripheral wall 1 and forms a plurality of enclosed spaces 4a-4c defined by the end walls 3a, 3b and partition plates 5 and containing a predetermined amount of thermal medium 6 gasified by heating from the inner peripheral wall 2 while condensed by radiation toward the outer peripheral wall 1 respectively. And when tubular shafts 7a, 7b are rotated on bearings 8a, 8b, while high temperature fluid is introduced through rotary joints 9a, 9b from a high temperature fluid generator 10, in the inner wall 2 a strip-like heated article 14 traveling wound around the upper outer peripheral surface of outer peripheral wall 1 is heated uniformly through the thermal medium 6 in the enclosed space 4. Thus, the uniformly heating performance can be improved to satisfactorily continuously heat the strip-like heated article.
