<p>PURPOSE:To prevent apparent picture quality from being lowered and to increase search speed, by interrupting search when a difference between a read out vector and an input differential value whose distortion goes less than prescribed distortion is found, and Performing encoding by outputting a code corresponding to the vector. CONSTITUTION:The vector is reproduced by searching a code book 11 in order for an input vector, and when the difference between the input vector and a reproduced vector whose value is less than a prescribed threshold value is found by performing processing on the vector by a subtracting means 12 and a comparison means 14, the search is interrupted, and the encoding is performed by outputting the code corresponding to the vector from the code book 11. In such a way, when a picture is reproduced by the vector whose code is decoded, the difference of the size of the distortion at every picture element block is reduced, and the apparent picture quality can be prevented from being lowered, and also, it is possible to shorten a time required for the search as a whole.</p> |
