PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for precise working accuracy of a journal and to reduce cost by providing a foil bearing provided radially with leaves having electricity between the journal and air bearing hole. CONSTITUTION:A rotor 30 rotates in a floating state when a plunger 39 is attracted by a coil 41 for thrust while high-frequency current is kept passed to a stator coil 40. A relative speed of the journal 31 and the foil bearing 36 increases and air flow 50 is generated in the same direction as the rotating direction of the journal 31 by the viscosity resistance of the air when the number of revolutions of the rotor 30 increases. The air flow 50 flows into a spacing 49 between the journal 31 and the leaves 48. Since the spacing 49 is narrowed to a wedge shape, the air flow 50 increases its pressure as the air flow is confined into the deep part of the spacing 49. The leaves 48 are then elastically deformed outward to increase the spacing and, therefore, the journal 31 rotates at a high speed without contact with the leaves 48 while the journal is held afloat radially in the air bearing hole 34. |
