PURPOSE:To manufacture an oil impregnated metal powder sintered bearing suitable for use under high load, by mixing specific amounts of copper with a matrix of alloy steel containing specific percentages of Cr, Mo, W, V, and C and by providing oil-impregnation pores of a specific intercommunicating porosity. CONSTITUTION:A copper powder is blended by 0.5-8%, by weight ratio, with an alloy powder of <=100 mesh grain size which has a composition consisting of 3.8-4.5% Cr, 4.5-5.5% Mo, 5.5-6.7% W, 1.6-2.2% V, 0.8-0.9% C, and the balance iron. The resulting powder mixture is compacted into the shape of the prescribed product in which green density is regulated to 65-75% by density ratio, which is sintered at 1,000-1,220 deg.C. In this way, the oil impregnated metal powder sintered bearing for high load use having oil-impregnation pores of 20-30% intercommunicating porosity based on 25-35% porosity and combining a radial crushing strength constant of >=about 60kg/mm<2> with wettability can be obtained.
