PURPOSE:To change a width size of a slab into a required size without generating buckling and flaws by installing upper and lower pressing rollers in the central part of the slab, controlling a horizontal posture of the slab by the lower press roller, and pressing the slab at a specific load by the upper press roller for changing a slab width by use of pressing metal dies. CONSTITUTION:A slab 1 is introduced to an edging press provided with a couple of right and left pressing metal dies 4, 4 and a couple of upper and lower pressing rollers 8, 9. Positions of the slab 1 are controlled so that a posture of the slab 1 at a start of pressing is always horizontal by the lower pressing roller 8. After the start of pressing, the slab 1 is brought to keep the position and the upper pressing roller 9 always presses the slab 1 at a light load of 2-8% of a pressing load of the pressing metal dies 4, 4 to change a width of the slab 1. |
