PURPOSE:To check the production of defective yarn, by inputting an end-down signal at each winding unit into a central control unit after setting it on the existing signal, and stopping the winding if the upper limit value or the lower limit one of end-down frequency is detected. CONSTITUTION:During travel of yearn 3, if a thick yarn part and a fine yarn part, a slub or the like are detected by a slub catcher 8, a control unit 13 drives a cutter device 7, while it gives a command to an ending device 9 and performs ending action. An end-down signal in this winding unit 1 is fed to a central control unit as a constant length pulse signal. And, if it is reached to the upper limit value where end down frequency per unit yarn quantity in each unit 1 is preset, or the lower limit value where it is set as abnormality if the specified numbers are continued because such a probability that a lot of bobbins of end- down zero are continued is very few, the winding of the said unit is stopped. Thus, a trouble slub catcher is detectable in its early stages, and the production of defective yarn is checked.
