PURPOSE:To rapidly detect the phase difference of high speed rotation, by fixing discs overlapping with each other at the outer peripheral parts thereof respectively to two parallel shafts rotating in synchronous relationship and detecting a plurality of the windows each composed of an involute curve provided to the overlap part of said discs by a slit and a photocoupler. CONSTITUTION:Shafts 3, 4 are connected in the relationship of master and servant to be rotated by a male rotor 1 and a female rotor 2. Discs 9, 10 overlapping with each other at the outer peripheral parts thereof are fixed to the end parts of the shafts 3, 4. A plurality of light pervious windows 17, 18 whose opposed surfaces form involute curves 17a, 17b, 18a, 18b are provided to the overlap part at equal intervals. The light from a light emitting element 11 passes through the windows 18, 17 and a light passing window 22 formed by the observing window 15 of a light blocking plate 16 to be inputted to a light receiving element 12. When the shafts 3, 4 are shifted in a phase, the size of the light passing window 22 changes. The output change of the light receiving element 12 is detected by a detection circuit 102, amplified by an amplifying circuit 103 and filtered by a filter 104 to be outputted for detection of phase difference. By this method, phase difference is rapidly detected even during high speed rotation. This apparatus is suitable for the female and male rotors of a screw type compressor.
