PURPOSE:To improve drawability at the time of hot working by reducing the Si content of a martensite free cutting stainless steel contg. Pb and specifying the area of Mn/Si ratio. CONSTITUTION:The martensite free cutting stainless contains, by weight, 0.26-0.40% C, <1.00% Mn, <0.40% P, <0.30% S, <0.60% Ni, 11.50-14.00% Cr and 0.07-0.30% Pb. The Si content of said steel is regulated to <=0.30% As well as the relationship of >=2.5 Mn/Si is retained. The drawability of billet cast flakes in continuous casting at >=1,200 deg.C is improved, the generation of a crack is set free at the time of one heat rolling and the production yield of the steel is improved.
