PURPOSE:To obtain pertinent air intake pipe length at all times by moving a slide pipe depending upon an operation condition and adjusting the length of an air intake pipe via the provision of an air intake passage and a bellmouth within the air intake pipe and the installation of the slide pipe within the bellmouth. CONSTITUTION:When an engine is operated, a control unit 23 makes judgment about an operation condition on the basis of signals from each type of sensors. In this case, when the engine is operating at a low speed and a low load, a relay switch is turned ON, thereby making a vacuum tank 20 and a piston chamber 16 continuous to each other and moving a slide piston 13. And a slide pipe 11 is moved within a bellmouth part 10, and connected to the air intake passage 8 of an air intake pipe 5 and air introduced to a surge tank part via a throttle valve is fed to each cylinder. The length of the slide pipe 11 is thereby made relatively large and a fuel consumption rate is mainly improved. On the other hand, the slide piston 13 is retained at a constant position with a spring 17 at a high speed and a high load.
