PURPOSE:To abate a lockup release shock, by bypassing a control valve, and installing a bypass oil passage in an oil passage leading to a converter oil chamber, a first orifice in an oil passage leading to a lockup oil chamber and a second orifice in the bypass oil passage, respectively. CONSTITUTION:An orifice 30 is installed in an oil passage leading to a lockup oil chamber, and thereby at the time of lockup release, hydraulic fluid is in no case suddenly supplied to this lockup oil chamber. Therefore, since a lockup clutch 4 is not suddenly released, a lockup release shock is abated. And, at the time of this lockup release, an amount of the hydraulic fluid of a torque converter 1, circulating to an oil cooler through this oil passage 12 via a converter chamber, is decreased, so that cooling shortage in the hydraulic fluid of the torque converter 1 is caused there. So, a lockup control valve 20 is bypassed, and a bypass oil passage 31 is installed in an oil passage 11 leading to the converter chamber, whereby this cooling shortage of the hydraulic fluid is prevented from occurring.
