PURPOSE:To detect the position of a head device on an information recording disk by an electrical means only by partitioning two recording surfaces out of plural recording surfaces to the their preset regions corresponding to each other and giving a signal to each region. CONSTITUTION:At least two recording surfaces 1a and 1b are selected out of plural information surfaces of the information recording disk 1, and these two information surfaces 1a and 1b are partitioned to be preset mutually corresponding regions D1-D3 and STG1-STG3, while their respective regions D1-D3 and STG1-STG3 are accorded with preset signals including signal erasing. Then, at the time of write or read, a region where the head device is positioned is detected based on a readout signal from at least one region of the recording surfaces 1a and 1b. In this way, a cylinder region where the head device is positioned is exactly specified, e.g. a write protect region and read/write region can be definitely discriminated by the electric means only.
