PURPOSE:To prevent an image which is transferred to a transfer material from deteriorating in picture quality by detecting the electric contacting state between a conductive member side which forms an image carrier and a high-voltage earth side provided to a device main body, and discriminating whether or not the contacting state is sufficient. CONSTITUTION:A contacting state discriminating means 40 is provided which detects the electric contacting state between the side of the conductive material 12 and the side of the high-voltage earth 7 and discriminates whether or not the contacting state is sufficient. Thus, whether or not the electric contacting state is sufficient is detected to prevent the image which is transferred to the transfer material from having deterioration in picture quality such as a white omission and black stripes, and also suppress unnecessary consumption of the transfer material. Further, high-voltage noises are eliminated.
