PURPOSE:To prevent a drop phenomenon of an image concentration caused by selected development, by forming plural linear latent image patterns having a distinct contour, on a non-image part of the surface of an image carrying body and bringing them to toner development by a developing part, and removing them from the image carrying body surface by a cleaning part without transferring them to a transfer material. CONSTITUTION:Plural linear latent image patterns having a distinct contour are formed on a non-image part of the surface of an image carrying body 1 and brought to toner development by a developing part 4, and a toner developed image of a linear pattern is not transferred to a transfer material P but removed from the surface of the image carrying body 1 by a cleaning part 10. Accordingly, as for a toner in a developing device, it is prevented substantially that a ratio of a toner portion which scarcely develops a latent image becomes large as time elapses, and as for the toner in the developing device, a roughly correct tribo-balance is always held as a whole, and the aged drop phenomenon of developed image concentration is suppressed.
