Knife-edge seal for the production, in particular, of ultra-high vacuum-tight or high-pressure-tight joints or closures for containers and pipes etc. by means of a radial knife edge 1 which is pressed radially against a cylindrical or tapered mating surface 4, a narrow, uninterrupted annular sealing surface being formed. Even in the case of the preferred metal-to-metal design, a low contact pressure is sufficient for sealing, even where the knife edge and the mating surface are made of the same material, good releaseability and reusability of the tightly connected parts thereby being achieved. The radial knife-edge seal can be used, for example, for the leaktight connection of connection pieces to containers, of two hollow cylindrical pieces, for pipe connection or interconnection sleeves and in valves. <IMAGE>
