PURPOSE:To obtain a compound useful as a test bath medium for electronic parts heating medium for gas-phase soldering, etc., in high yield, by fluorinating a trialkylamine or a partially fluorinated trialkylamine with a fluorine gas at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:A trialkylamine or a partially fluorinated trialkylamine is fluorinated with a fluorine gas at 110-180 deg.C, preferably 120-150 deg.C to give the aimed substance. Optionally neutralization reaction and distillation are carried out. When fluorination is carried out by the use of a high valence metal lic fluoride, a partially fluorinated trialkylamine having the number ratio of H/F of <=1/8, especially <=1/10 is obtained. When this compound is used as a raw material, existence of incomplete fluorinated substance is suppressed.
