PURPOSE:To obtain a novel water-swellable sealing material, useful for water stop of iron products, concrete products, etc., by coexistence of a flexible resin or rubbers with a modified water-insoluble polyethylene oxide, highly water absorbing resin and polyvalent metallic compound. CONSTITUTION:A sealing material, obtained by coexistence of (A) flexible resin or rubbers with (A) a modified water-insoluble polyethylene oxide (PEO) prepared by reacting the PEO with an isocyanate compound, (B) a highly water absorbing resin other than the component (A) and (C) a polyvalent metallic compound consisting of preferably calcium oxide, having a small swelling ratio difference between fresh water and seawater as well as high swelling ratio.
