PURPOSE:To sequentially apply inks to an ink ribbon according to the sequence of printing and avoid wasting the ink ribbon, by providing a single printing head, using a ribbon not coated with inks as the ink ribbon, and providing a plurality of ink-applying means along a feeding passage for the ink ribbon between a payout reel and the printing head. CONSTITUTION:An ink ribbon 3 paid out from a payout reel 5 is guided sequentially by guide rollers 21, 22, 23 to be taken up by a take-up reel 6. At the time of applying inks to the ink ribbon, four ink-applying means 11, 12, 13, 14 provided between the first guide roller 21 and the second guide roller 22 are moved in the direction of an arrow E synchronously with the operation of a printing head under the control of a controlling means, whereby the inks of colors required are sequentially applied to the ink ribbon 3, and are effectively used for printing on a printing paper 4 by the printing head 2. |
