PURPOSE:To automatically hold a line in calling, by providing a sensor turned off when a handset is grasped with a normal posture by a caller, and turned on when it is separated from a caller's hand and laid in a horizontal direction. CONSTITUTION:When the caller hooks off the handset 1 from the telephone set main body, a state goes to an OFF-hook state, and a mode switching circuit 8a and a holding circuit 8 go to operating states, however, by grasping the handset 1 with the normal posture by the caller, the output signal of a handset grasp sensor 1a is turned OFF, thereby, the holding mode of the holding circuit 8 is canceled. Next, by separating the handset 1 from the caller's hand, the output signal of the sensor 1a is turned ON, thereby, the holding circuit 8 goes to the holding mode, then, a telephone line is held. Furthermore, if the handset is grasped again to continue the call, the holding state is canceled.
