PURPOSE:To obtain a high picture quality by laminating a pair of polarizing filters having variable attenuation characteristics and controlling the attenuation characteristic of one of a pair of polarizing filters in accordance with a left picture signal and controlling that of the other in accordance with a right picture signal. CONSTITUTION:Six-layered polarizing filters have transparent electrodes for liquid crystal driving on respective front and rear faces and consist of a pair of three-layered polarizing filters whose angles of polarization are different from each other by 90 deg.. Three-layered polarizing filters constituting one of this pair have the variable attenuation characteristic which can be controlled by the electric signal with respect to wavelengths of Y(yellow), M(magenta), and C(cyan). That is, three-layered polarizing filters 7-9 constituting one of the pair have the attenuation characteristic changed at 0 deg. angle of polarization as polarizing filters for left picture in accordance with the electric signal, and three-layered polarizing filters 10-12 constituting the other have the attenuation characteristic changed at 90 deg. angle of polarization as polarizing filters for right picture in accordance with the electric signal. Thus, the stereoscopic pictures having high quality are obtained. |
