The auto-operator finds application in machine tools with a vertical spindle. It is simplified with decreased cross sectional dimensions and its grippers are not subjected to soiling. The auto-operator consists of a body (5) and a mechanical arm (1) with two grippers (1' and 1") fixed to the lower end of a movable bushing (2) along whose axle there is a rod (29) for actuating the grippers and which is mounted in a stationary bushing (11) with possibilities for rotation and translation in axial direction. In the upper end of the movable bushing (2) there is fixed a nut (3) of a screw couple whose screw (4) is seated in the body (5) of the auto-operator and is engaged to the shaft of the motor (9). Along the outer surface of the movable bushing (2) there is a groove (2') with a form corresponding to the required movements of the mechanical arm (1). In this groove (2') there is a roller (12) whose axle is fixed to the stationary bushing (11). The body (13) of the positioning lock under the spring (14) is fixed above the roller (12).
