A switch fabric for a data switch has data routed through the switch as a plurality of parallel data words, portions of each data word being switched by separate respective master 22a and slave 22b switching elements. By using separate switching elements, each switching element may be made simpler and easy to test, but reliability is ensured by having a master switching element controlling the operation of the slave switching element(s). |
