<p>In a pointing device [10,20,50,70] having a laser [11,41,51,71] in a handheld housing [19], the laser generates a light beam that exits the housing and a beam steering assembly [12,44,45,54,55] causes the light beam to move relative to the housing. The pointer includes a housing orientation sensor [14,24,43,53,57] that measures the orientation of the housing. A controller [13,23,42,52] operates the beam steering assembly [12,44,45,54,55] to compensate for changes in the housing orientation. Housing orientation sensors may be constructed from a gyroscope or a camera. The beam steering assembly [12,44,45,54,55] may stabilise the light beam location and/or cause the light beam to execute a fixed pattern.</p> |
