A phase-locked loop PLL (4) is provided according to the invention for exciting the ultrasound oscillator at an optimum frequency. This phase-locked loop PLL (4) is provided with a frequency tuning device (6) to which a voltage-controlled oscillator (8) is assigned. The output line from the PLL (4) contains an electronic delay element (12). The delay element (12) acts as a time switch by means of which the transient process of the control loop is masked out. These excitation electronics allow the operating frequency to be set very easily, quickly and with high resolution. <IMAGE>
