A method for the digital transmission of television images, in which in each case digitised signal values of a field are converted into spectral values with the aid of a transformation (for example an M transformation), which values are quantised and are sent out after data reduction. The arithmetic mean of the signal values is calculated for each field and transmitted separately. Since this is an M transformation free of mean values, it is calculated from the remaining quantised spectral values. The original signal values, apart from a quantising error, are reconstructed by adding the inversely transformed spectral values and the associated mean value. <IMAGE> |
