PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high efficiency, by trans-alkylating naphthalene or monoalkylnaphthalene in the presence of a solid acid catalyst, separating and recovering the objective dialkylnaphthalene and recycling the remaining part to the trans-alkylation step. CONSTITUTION:Naphthalene and/or a monoalkylnaphthalene are trans-alkylated by contacting with a polyalkylbenzene in the presence of a solid acid catalyst (especially preferably selected from HY zeolite, silica, titania, alumina, boria and mordenite), the produced dialkylnaphthalene is separated and recovered and the remaining polyalkylbenzene and naphthalenes other than dialkylnaphthalene are recycled to the trans-alkylation step. A benzene compound having reduced alkyl content by the trans-alkylation reaction may be regenerated by alkylation with olefin or lower alcohol and used as the polyalkylbenzene. |
