Line-drawing devices of many types on typewriters for drawing horizontal and vertical lines are already known. The fact that they are hardly ever encountered in practice should be sufficient evidence that they have not proved to be expedient or have hindered the typing operation too greatly. These disadvantages are avoided according to the invention in that the ink-ribbon cartridge has a receiving device for an ink pen (16) which rests resiliently in one end position against the recording medium (1) to produce lines and is arranged so that it can be moved into and engaged in another end position to put it out of operation. A considerable advantage consists in the fact that, in this case, the ink pen can be mounted on the cartridge at a place where the typing operation will not be disturbed. The ink pen can also be exchanged easily by removing the ink-ribbon cartridge. The ink-ribbon cartridge with the ink pen allows simple production of lines in a horizontal or vertical direction or even in any other direction. The exchange of the ink pen (16) can be carried out without the operator requiring any special skills. <IMAGE>
