PRODUCTION OF FINE POLYMER PARTICLE

PURPOSE:To obtain fine polymer particles completely freed of impurities such as catalyst residues, having a narrow particle diameter distribution and scarcely causing agglomeration, by radiation polymerization of a mixture of diethylene glycol dimethacrylate or diacrylate with a noncrosslinking polymerizable monomer in a specified organic solvent. CONSTITUTION:0.5-50vol% monomer mixture comprising diethylene glycol dimethacrylate or diacrylate and at least one noncrosslinking polymerizable monomer is polymerized by irradiation at +50--80 deg.C in an at least one organic solvent (polymerization medium) in which said monomer mixture is soluble or from which the polymer formed by irradiation is precipitable. In this way, fine particles having a mean diameter as measured on precipitated fine polymer particles in a state of saturated water content (at 37 deg.C) in the range of 0.1-15mum.
