PURPOSE:To obtain the excellent continuous multilevel image by shifting the position of a read information by a half dot at every other one row of scanning in order to compensate the positional shifting information of an output to the position of reading by a half dot on the premise of a system in which an output is shifted by half dot at every other line of scanning. CONSTITUTION:The sampling image of an image f(x) can be restored by h(x)identical sinC(x)=sinpix/pix. The information of extraction points 1-4 are taken as S1-S4, extraction pitch is made one, to restore the information H1 of the mid point between the points 2 and 3. In such case, the H1 comes to be the grand total of h(xi)Si, and H1=-0.7(S1+S4)+0.73(S2+S3) by using x1=-1.5, X2=0.5, x3=0.5, x4=1.5, and h(-x)=h(x). H2 is obtained in a similar manner, and one line share information shifted by half dot can be repeatedly restored. The above-mentioned processing is executed at every one line, and such input information as shifted in main scanning direction by half dot from the information extracted at a constant point are generated at every other line. By using the above-described information, an image with the number of gradations corresponding to a matrix size can be outputted without deteriorating a high density part or skipping a low density part.
